BELLEVILLE – The Laval Rocket extended their winning streak to three games with a hard-fought 4-3 victory over the Belleville Senators on Wednesday, fueled by a multi-goal performance from Alex Belzile and a game-winning tally from Laurent Dauphin.
Dauphin’s goal, his 15th consecutive game with a point, proved to be the difference as Laval solidified its position atop the AHL’s North Division with a 20-10-1 record. Jared Davidson also found the back of the net for the Rocket, marking his first goal since rejoining the team from the Montreal Canadiens on November 9th after a month-long stint.
Belzile finished the night with a dominant three-point performance, continuing a hot streak that saw him record three points in the previous game as well. His offensive surge is a key factor in Laval’s recent success.
With his latest contribution, Dauphin now shares the lead in AHL scoring with Belleville’s Arthur Kaliyev, both boasting 36 points on the season. The race for the league’s scoring title is heating up as the AHL season progresses.
For the Senators, Xavier Bourgault scored twice and Philippe Daoust added another, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Laval’s offensive firepower. Belleville has now dropped nine of their twelve games in December, falling to a difficult stretch as the month nears its end. Mads Sogaard faced a barrage of 40 shots, stopping 36.
The contest was a physical one, featuring three separate fighting majors. William Trudeau and Hayden Hodgson dropped the gloves in the first period, followed by Lucas Condotta and Jorian Donovan. Later in the second period, Luke Tuch and Dennis Gilbert also engaged in a heated bout.
Laval, coming off a pair of 4-3 and 4-2 wins against the Syracuse Crunch last weekend, will return to action Friday as they begin a two-game homestand against the Utica Comets. The Rocket will look to continue their momentum in front of their home fans.
