Rolls-Royce is exploring financing options for its modular nuclear reactor division, according to reports on August 30, 2025.

The luxury automaker’s venture into small modular reactors (SMRs) reflects a growing trend among established industrial giants to diversify into the nuclear energy sector, seeking innovative power solutions. ČEZ, a Czech energy company, and Rolls-Royce SMR have agreed to begin preparations for the construction of a small reactor on July 17, 2025.

ÄŒEZ has become a shareholder in Rolls-Royce SMR, acquiring approximately a 20% stake on March 4, 2025. The company stated that two factories producing modular reactors could potentially be established in the Czech Republic, creating around 8,000 jobs.

On October 29, 2024, Rolls-Royce unveiled a unique gold-colored vehicle for a collector, drawing inspiration from the James Bond franchise. The same day, ÄŒEZ announced it would purchase a stake in Rolls-Royce SMR for billions of crowns, aiming to manufacture reactors. This move signifies a substantial investment in the development of small nuclear reactors.

Discussions between Prime Minister Petr Fiala and Rolls-Royce executives regarding the construction and development of modular reactors in the Czech Republic took place on December 11, 2023.

Rolls-Royce is also developing a robotic snake designed for performing tumor surgeries, with expectations for its utilize within the next decade, as reported on January 25, 2023. The company’s foray into robotics demonstrates its commitment to applying advanced technologies beyond the automotive industry.

The Paris Motor Demonstrate in October 2022 featured the debut of the first electric Jeep and Rolls-Royce vehicles, alongside hydrogen-powered models.

In related news, Rolls-Royce is collaborating with partners on the development of a successor to the Concorde supersonic jet, though the engine manufacturer has reportedly lost a key partner as of September 30, 2022.
