Romania Weather: Orange & Yellow Code for Blizzard, Strong Wind – December 2025

Romania is bracing for widespread severe winter weather as the final day of 2025 arrives, with nearly the entire country under alert for blizzard conditions and dangerously strong winds. The National Meteorological Management has issued both yellow and orange warnings, anticipating hurricane-force gusts in mountainous regions and severely reduced visibility throughout much of the country beginning Saturday evening and lasting through Monday morning [[2]]. Residents are advised to prepare for potential travel disruptions and hazardous conditions as powerful winds combine with important snowfall [[3]].

Much of the country is bracing for significantly colder temperatures Sunday due to powerful winds that are making it feel even chillier. Nearly all of the nation is under a severe weather alert as of the last Sunday in 2025.

The National Meteorological Administration has issued yellow and orange alerts for blizzard conditions and winds that will reach hurricane speeds in the mountains.

Beginning Saturday evening and lasting until 10 a.m. Monday, blizzard conditions are expected in Maramureș, Transylvania, Moldova, Dobrogea, and the mountainous regions, with visibility dropping below 100 meters at times. Winds will gust between 31 and 43 miles per hour (50–70 km/h), with a general snowfall accumulation of 2 to 3 inches (3–8 cm). In the Eastern and Southern Carpathians, snowfall totals could reach 8 to 12 inches (10–20 cm). Oltenia, southern Banat, and parts of Muntenia will also experience wind gusts of 31 to 43 miles per hour (50–70 km/h).

An orange alert for severe weather went into effect late Saturday night. Through 10 a.m. Monday, the Southern and Curvature Carpathians, generally above 5,577 feet (1700 m) in altitude, will experience winds exceeding 68 to 81 miles per hour (110–130 km/h), blizzard conditions, visibility below 50 meters, and drifting snow.

Throughout Sunday and into early Monday morning, most of Moldova and parts of Transylvania will see strong winds with gusts of 43 to 56 miles per hour (70–90 km/h), while the northern and central Eastern Carpathians, above 5,577 feet (1700 m), will experience winds of 56 to 62 miles per hour (90–100 km/h) along with blizzard conditions and severely reduced visibility.
