FranceRoxane Depardieu Reveals Childhood Trauma Amid Online Harassment

Roxane Depardieu, daughter of actor Gérard Depardieu, has publicly responded to a barrage of hateful messages she’s received since supporting her father during his recent trial, revealing she was sexually assaulted as a child.

After months of remaining silent, Roxane Depardieu took to Instagram on February 10 to address the hateful messages she’s been receiving since publicly supporting her father during his trial. The actor was found guilty of sexual assault in May of last year and sentenced to 18 months of suspended prison time and ordered to pay damages.

In a lengthy and direct post, shared by her cousin, singer Alexiane, Depardieu, 34, first identified herself as “a Black and white mixed-race lesbian deeply in love with a woman.” She stated this as a way to affirm her identity in the face of the racist and homophobic attacks she says she’s endured for nearly a year. The case has sparked wider conversations about accountability and power dynamics within the French film industry.

Depardieu also responded to online users who wished she would experience sexual assault herself, revealing she was sexually assaulted “several times” during her childhood. “I was already raped at 6 years old by a psychopath,” she wrote, a stark confession intended to highlight the severity of the messages she’s been receiving. She questioned, “Do I represent enough minorities to speak out or enter a certain quota? And, contrary to what many think, I am a woman.”

“Your Rage Makes Things Worse”

Depardieu went on to criticize what she described as the excesses of online activism, targeting “ignorant fanatics” who, she believes, “mix all the causes.” She called for more moderation and urged individuals to fight their battles with discernment. “Look at yourselves in the mirror and heal yourselves before fighting the world like headless chickens. Your rage makes things worse. Hatred only brings more hatred.”

Following her initial post, the painter shared screenshots of some of the most disparaging comments she’s received, stating that speaking out feels like “personal therapy” after months of cyberharassment. “I decided to share the most dismissive comments. The trolls must be really bored to say what they say and even worry about me. Thank you for forging my character.”

Depardieu also addressed the sweatshirt she wore during her father’s trial, which drew significant criticism. “I often wear it and I collect items with the inscription ‘Fuck you.’ Nothing personal.”

The situation unfolds as Gérard Depardieu continues to face the repercussions of his conviction. Roxane Depardieu’s statement feels less like a defense of her father and more like a determined effort to finish the harassment she’s been experiencing. It’s a direct, and at times raw, message that she is fully owning.
