Roy Suryo, a suspect in a case alleging a forged diploma attributed to former Indonesian President Joko Widodo, displayed a photocopy of the president’s diploma on Thursday, February 12, 2026. The presentation followed his accompaniment of three expert witnesses during questioning.
“Here, take a look, media friends,” Suryo said, showing the legalized photocopy of Widodo’s diploma outside the Metro Jaya Police’s Criminal Investigation Directorate in South Jakarta.
Suryo presented two copies of the diploma, which differed in color.

One copy was white with black ink, while the other had a darker paper tone. Suryo did not elaborate on the differences between the two copies during the presentation.
On Wednesday, February 11, 2026, Bonatua Silalahi, a public policy observer serving as an expert witness for Suryo’s legal team, had also shown a copy of the diploma. Silalahi explained the copy was obtained from the General Elections Commission (KPU) and used during Widodo’s registration for the 2014 presidential election.
“I explained to investigators that as a researcher, I needed this data from the KPU as secondary information. This is a copy of the primary data recognized by the KPU,” Silalahi stated.
“The KPU believes this is a photocopy of the original, whereas there’s no proof it has been verified or authenticated. They only conducted a level of verification. But that’s the best data we have at this time, meaning it’s administratively valid and legal,” he added.
Three Expert Witnesses Questioned
Suryo’s team presented three individuals as expert witnesses on Thursday: Komjen (retired) Oegroseno, cultural expert M Sobari and former Chairman of the Muhammadiyah Central Executive Board, Din Syamsuddin. All three were undergoing questioning at Metro Jaya Police headquarters.
Previously, Suryo’s team requested copies of 709 documents related to the alleged forgery case. According to legal counsel Refly Harun, 505 of those documents were submitted by Gadjah Mada University (UGM) as evidence.
“We requested data from the Public Information Commission at Gadjah Mada University, and they provided information stating they had submitted 505 documents to the Metro Jaya Police, which is part of the 709 requested,” Harun said at Metro Jaya Police headquarters on February 5, 2026.
Harun stated the document request was to protect the legal rights of Suryo and others involved in the case, including Rismon Sianipar and Tifauzia Tyassuma, also known as Dokter Tifa. He argued they are entitled to know what evidence investigators are using to support the charges.
“If it’s public information, especially regarding evidence that could implicate someone, then we are justified in asking what the evidence is,” he said.
Widodo’s Diploma Presented During Case Review
Investigators with the Metro Jaya Police’s Criminal Investigation Directorate previously showed the original diploma issued by the Faculty of Forestry at Gadjah Mada University to Suryo and his team. The presentation occurred during a special case review at Metro Jaya Police headquarters.
“We conveyed that during the special case review, with the permission and agreement of all parties present, investigators showed the diploma issued to Joko Widodo by the Faculty of Forestry at UGM, which had been seized by investigators from the complainant, Engineer Haji Joko Widodo,” said Metro Jaya Police Chief of Criminal Investigation, Kombes Iman Imanuddin, to reporters on December 18, 2025.
The special case review was held at the request of Suryo’s team. Representatives from Widodo’s legal team also attended the meeting.
“Once again, we would like to inform you that during the case review, investigators showed the diploma issued to Joko Widodo by the Faculty of Forestry at UGM,” Imanuddin added.
