Riga University of Economics (RSE) athletic programs are experiencing a surge in success, with both the women’s handball and men’s basketball teams securing pivotal wins this weekend. The RSU/VEF Riga basketball team’s victory over the University of Latvia marks the first time in five years a team has upset a top-tier opponent in the Latvian cup competition, bolstering their position in the Ramirent National Basketball League [[1]]. Thes achievements highlight the growing competitiveness of RSE athletics and foreshadow a potentially strong finish to the season for both programs.
Riga University of Economics (RSE) teams enjoyed a dominant weekend, securing key victories in Latvian Cup competition.
On Sunday, January 18th, the RSE women’s handball team defeated Jēkabpils SS, earning a spot in the Latvian Cup Final after a convincing two-game sweep in the semi-final series.
Meanwhile, the RSU/VEF Riga basketball team advanced to the semi-finals of the Užava Latvian Cup, overcoming a significant challenge from the University of Latvia with an 86-73 victory at home in the quarterfinal round. The team completed a historic series win, 155-154, overall.
RSU/VEF Riga has become the first team in the Ramirent National Basketball League in the last five years to eliminate a top-tier opponent from the Latvian Cup competition.
