Russian Drone Strike on Odesa Port Leaves One Dead, Six Injured

A Russian drone strike on a port in the Odesa region of Ukraine on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, resulted in one fatality and six injuries, three of which are considered serious. The attack highlights the ongoing targeting of Ukrainian infrastructure as the conflict continues, impacting the nation’s ability to maintain vital export routes. According to Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration and Minister of Community and Territorial Development Oleksiy Kuleba, “Russia has inflicted massive attacks on port and railway infrastructure.”

Kuleba reported that the attack on the port resulted in the death of one individual and injuries to six others. All of those affected were civilians, he emphasized. Damage was reported to company infrastructure, fertilizer warehouses, and railcars, including freight wagons.

A fire broke out as a result of the strike, and emergency services are currently working to contain the damage. “The consequences are being addressed, and all specialized emergency services are working at the scene,” Kuleba stated.

In a separate incident, Russian forces also targeted railway infrastructure in the Dnipropetrovsk region with drones on Wednesday. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the damage did not disrupt rail traffic, according to Kuleba.

“The enemy is deliberately and systematically attacking Ukraine’s logistical infrastructure, what connects the country, ensures exports, business operations, supplies to the regions, and the vitality of communities on the front lines,” Kuleba observed. The development underscores the strategic importance of Ukrainian ports and railways in sustaining the country’s economy and war effort.
