A unique recreational and educational space is taking shape in southeastern France. Construction is underway on “Parc aux Étoiles” (Star Park) in Saint-Raphaël, a multi-activity park designed to blend outdoor recreation with opportunities for learning about astronomy. The approximately €2 million project, funded by the Esterel Côte d’Azur Agglomeration, aims to provide a novel community amenity and capitalize on growing public interest in science education.
A new multi-activity park, dubbed “Parc aux Étoiles” (Star Park), is under construction in Saint-Raphaël, France, promising a unique blend of recreational space and astronomical observation opportunities. The project, funded by the Esterel Côte d’Azur Agglomeration, represents a significant investment in local amenities and a growing interest in accessible science education.
Located in the Epsilon 3 district on the heights of Saint-Raphaël, the park will feature tiered seating, over 200 different plant species, and a dedicated “planetary trail” with informational panels detailing the celestial bodies of our solar system.
Situated near the Aspé primary school, Parc aux Étoiles is designed to be both an educational resource and a community gathering space. The project underscores a trend toward integrating science and recreation in public parks.
We’ll have a playground with a large rocket, a sports area with equipment, and also a belvedere to allow walkers to have a beautiful view. There’s still a lot to do.

Construction of Parc aux Étoiles began in October 2025. The project aims to create a versatile space for both active recreation and stargazing.
Initially, the site on the heights of Saint-Raphaël didn’t appear destined to become a hub for astronomy enthusiasts.
These 12,600 square meters of land will soon become a favorite place for astronomy enthusiasts with the creation of the Star Park in Saint-Raphaël.

However, in a few months, a multi-activity park will open, catering to both sports enthusiasts and those fascinated by the cosmos.
There will be an observation platform for orientation. At night, it will be dedicated to observing the stars when there are special events to observe. Moreover, at that time, we will reduce the light intensity.

In 2024, the Esterel Côte d’Azur Agglomeration launched a vote to determine the name of the landscaped park, which will ultimately be called “Parc aux Étoiles.”
The initiative is welcomed by the Club d’Astronomie Copernic de Fréjus – Saint-Raphaël, which plans to regularly host sky observation sessions at the park.

In the late afternoon, we will be able to observe the sun with dedicated instruments and at night, we will organize observations for the public to help understand what the sky is. What the planets are, explain their movements, also talk about galaxies and nebulae.

Funded by the Esterel Côte d’Azur Agglomeration, the park will cost just over 2 million euros and is expected to be accessible by the end of July.
