Samsung is ending regular software support for its Galaxy S21 series – including the S21, S21+, and S21 Ultra – as of early 2026, a move impacting millions of users still utilizing the popular devices [[2]]. Samsung has ended software support for its Galaxy S21 series, including the Galaxy S21, S21+, and S21 Ultra, as of early 2026. This means the devices will no longer receive regular security updates from the company. The change was noted by SamMobile, which observed that the smartphones were not included in Samsung’s latest security release.
While users can continue to use their devices, Samsung warns that the phones are now more vulnerable to potential security threats and attacks. The company stated that it may provide updates in the event of a critical vulnerability, but this will be the exception rather than the rule. Samsung is encouraging owners of these models to consider upgrading to newer devices to ensure continued security.
The move comes as device security becomes increasingly important in the face of sophisticated cyberattacks. Fortunately, owners of the S21 series still have some recourse. According to Life Hacker, devices will continue to receive “Google Play System Updates,” which Google provides independently of the manufacturer. These updates, available since Android 10, can address certain issues and vulnerabilities even without direct support from Samsung. While not a complete solution, they offer a degree of ongoing protection.
The Galaxy S21 FE 5G, released in 2022, is not affected by the end of security updates. Samsung initially promised five years of software support for the S21 series, but now commits to seven years of software updates for devices released since 2024, reflecting a broader industry trend toward longer-term device support.
