Samsung is releasing a special edition of its Galaxy Z Flip 7 timed to coincide with the upcoming Olympic Games, but the device itself won’t feature any hardware changes compared to the standard consumer model. The focus of this edition is entirely on a unique design aesthetic.

The Olympic Edition boasts a special blue glass finish on the lower half of the phone, incorporating both the Olympic rings and the Milano Cortina logo.

The device will also feature a gold frame and a custom wallpaper inspired by the marks left by ice skate blades, according to sources. Samsung is hoping athletes will share images of the wallpaper online.

Galaxy Z Flip 7 Olympic Edition to Include Exclusive Apps

The phones provided to Olympic participants will also come pre-loaded with applications designed to enhance the experience for athletes during the Games. A key feature is the Galaxy Athlete Card app, which allows athletes to exchange digital cards simply by tapping their phones, building a collection of contacts met within the Olympic Village. The app has drawn comparisons to the popular game, Pokemon.

Each device will include a SIM card with 100 GB of data to eliminate roaming charges. The phones will also grant access to complimentary beverages from vending machines located throughout the Olympic Village.

The special edition phones will be packaged in a custom box and include a uniquely designed case. Samsung is also encouraging athletes to utilize its Now Brief AI feature to stay informed about their daily schedules.

This AI-powered function is expected to deliver useful updates, such as weather alerts – including notifications of potential snowfall – and reminders of scheduled events.

Some Samsung fans are already speculating that athletes may offer the limited-edition phones for sale on platforms like eBay after the Games, providing collectors with an opportunity to acquire the unique device. The long-term success and collectibility of these phones remains to be seen. The release highlights the growing trend of collaborations between tech companies and major sporting events to create exclusive, branded products.
