Samsung’s forthcoming Galaxy Z TriFold, a highly anticipated entry in the foldable phone market[[1]],recently underwent autonomous durability testing with concerning results. the tests, conducted by YouTube channel *JerryRigEverything*, subjected the device to a series of extreme stresses to evaluate real-world longevity, a crucial factor for the increasingly popular-but still structurally delicate-form factor[[2]]. While Samsung has invested heavily in foldable screen technology, and currently offers models like the Z fold and Z Flip lines[[3]],this latest evaluation raises questions about the durability of its newest design.

While the device didn’t immediately fail during initial folding tests, its hinge showed signs of weakness sooner than expected, signaling potential concerns about long-term reliability.
The Galaxy Z TriFold was subjected to an extreme “torture test” by the popular YouTube channel JerryRigEverything, pushing it to its limits with fire, sand, scratches, and repeated bending. Foldable phone technology represents a significant innovation in mobile device design, but durability remains a key challenge for manufacturers.
The flame test, while not representative of typical usage, was followed by a scratch test, which proved more insightful. The outer, smaller display demonstrated resistance to scratching similar to other flagship smartphones. However, the inner, flexible panel remained vulnerable and easily marked.
After sand was applied to the hinges and the phone was repeatedly opened and closed, the hinges began to emit creaking and grinding sounds. A forceful bend in the wrong direction ultimately caused the device to fail, resulting in pixel damage and a rapidly deteriorating screen. The phone’s Armor Aluminum frame appeared less robust than that of the Galaxy Z Fold 7, exhibiting significant thinness and bending along the antenna lines.
It’s important to note that this test represents an extreme scenario unlikely to be encountered in everyday use. However, the results clearly indicate that the Galaxy Z TriFold is not as durable or robust as the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which successfully withstood the same tests without frame deformation or screen failure, as previously reported.
