Saros: Housemarque’s Latest PS5 Action Game Set for April 30 Release
Housemarque’s upcoming action game Saros is scheduled to launch exclusively for the PlayStation 5 on April 30, 2026. Developed by the Finnish studio known for Returnal and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, the title marks another step in the company’s collaboration following its acquisition by Sony in July 2021.

The game follows Soltari Enforcer Arjun Devraj, voiced and likened to actor Rahul Kohli, as he investigates a lost off-world colony on the planet Carcosa. This world is defined by a perpetual solar eclipse that continuously reshapes the landscape and triggers a deep psychosis among those exposed to its effects.
Saros blends third-person shooter mechanics with bullet hell and roguelite elements. Players navigate shifting environments while managing persistent progression systems that allow permanent upgrades to Devraj’s loadout after each death. Central to gameplay is the Soltari Shield, which blocks incoming projectiles and absorbs their energy to power the Carcosan Power Weapons mounted on Devraj’s right arm.
Throughout the planet, players can collect Soltari Holograms that reveal fragments of Carcosa’s backstory and the events that led to its downfall. The narrative draws thematic inspiration from Robert Chambers’ 19th-century anthology The King in Yellow, incorporating names and motifs directly from the work while evoking comparisons to cosmic horror and stories like Heart of Darkness.
Built on Unreal Engine 5, Saros aims to deliver fluid gunplay and precise movement, building upon the foundation established by Returnal. While ambitions in theme and storytelling have drawn mixed early responses, critics have highlighted the game’s intense combat as a standout feature — describing it as a “combat ballet” that rewards mastery through repetition and skill.
As Sony prepares to release Saros on the PS5 later this month, the title stands as a notable addition to the platform’s 2026 lineup, continuing Housemarque’s tradition of challenging, visually striking action experiences.
