JEDDAH – Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has suspended an Umrah company and its foreign agent for failing to provide adequate accommodation for pilgrims, officials announced. The action comes as the Kingdom prepares to host millions of visitors for religious observances and underscores its commitment to ensuring quality services for those traveling to the holy sites of Mecca and Medina.

According to a statement released by the Saudi Press Agency, the company’s failure to meet contractual obligations regarding lodging constituted a clear violation of regulations governing services for Umrah pilgrims and visitors to the Two Holy Mosques. Reports indicate that numerous pilgrims arrived in Saudi Arabia without pre-arranged, secure housing despite the service being stipulated in their agreements.
The Ministry stated that immediate regulatory action was taken against both the company and its foreign agent in response to the shortcomings. This suspension follows a similar move in June, when the Ministry temporarily revoked the licenses of seven Umrah companies due to deficiencies in transportation services provided to pilgrims.
The Saudi Hajj Ministry and the General Authority for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque recently reported, via the Saudi Press Agency, that over 1.7 million Muslims from around the world performed Umrah during the month of Jumada Al-Akhirah alone. This highlights the significant scale of religious tourism to Saudi Arabia and the importance of maintaining high service standards.
