Saudi Aramco has begun rolling out a new 98-octane gasoline, priced substantially higher than existing fuels at 2.88 Riyal per liter, but the premium offering is expected to serve a very limited market. The launch, initially available in Riyadh, Jeddah, and Dammam starting in January 2026, is part of a broader Aramco strategy to diversify fuel options [[1]] and cater to owners of high-performance vehicles [[2]]. Though, company data indicates that less than 0.5% of vehicle owners will likely benefit from the fuel,as it’s not designed to improve the performance of the vast majority of cars on Saudi roads [[3]].

Saudi Aramco’s newly launched premium gasoline, priced at 2.88 Saudi Riyal per liter, is expected to benefit less than half a percent of vehicle owners in the Kingdom, according to data released by the oil giant. This suggests the vast majority of drivers will not see any additional performance gains from the higher-priced fuel.

The state-owned petroleum company introduced the new product targeting a very limited segment of high-performance vehicle owners. Initial availability is restricted to the major urban centers of Riyadh, Jeddah, and Dammam, as well as the roadways connecting them.

Aramco stated that the advanced fuel offers no tangible benefits for vehicles with economy or medium-compression engines, which comprise the overwhelming majority of the country’s vehicle fleet.

  • Pricing: 2.88 Riyal per liter (compared to 0.75 Riyal for regular gasoline)
  • Geographic Distribution: Initial rollout in three major urban areas
  • Target Demographic: Exclusively owners of sports and luxury cars
  • Utilization Rate: Less than 0.5% of all registered vehicles

The company emphasized that the launch of the high-octane product aims to diversify available fuel options without impacting the supply of traditional 91 and 95 octane gasoline. The three urban centers were selected due to the concentration of specialized vehicles within those areas.

Automotive experts recommend consulting a vehicle’s owner’s manual before switching to the new fuel, as using it in engines not designed for it may simply be a financial waste without any performance improvement. The introduction of this premium fuel comes as Aramco continues to navigate a global energy market undergoing significant shifts in demand and technological advancements.
