Milestone is developing Screamer, a new arcade racing game featuring an anime-inspired storyline and unique gameplay mechanics. The racing genre continues to evolve with developers experimenting with new approaches to gameplay and narrative.
The PlayStation version’s Trophy list has emerged via PSNProfiles, offering a glimpse into what players can expect from the game, including a parrying system.
Screamer’s Gameplay Incorporates Fighting Game Mechanics
Whereas not a “soulslike” in the traditional sense, Screamer incorporates elements reminiscent of the genre, specifically the parry mechanic – the ability to deflect enemy attacks to create openings for counterattacks.
This is evidenced by a Trophy requiring players to achieve 50 K.O.s using the vehicle’s shield parry. Beyond that, players will need to complete the storyline for each racing team and specific chapters within the game’s narrative.
Players will as well need to play as different characters and complete challenges unique to each, utilizing their specific abilities. The Trophy list also includes objectives such as achieving 100 K.O.s in Overdrive mode – a powerful acceleration that allows players to destroy opponents on contact – and eliminating an opponent within an ally’s slipstream.
The Trophy requirements appear achievable without excessive difficulty, and dedicated players engaging with all of Screamer’s systems should be able to unlock most objectives through regular gameplay. Notably, there are no online-specific or difficulty-related Trophies.
Preorders for Screamer are currently available on Gamelife, with details on pricing and available editions outlined here.
