Natur-Fotografie

Award-winning German nature photographer Sebastian Frölich has been capturing the beauty of the Tyrolean Alps, with a particular fondness for the Karwendel mountain range. In October 2025, the London Natural History Museum recognized one of his stunning works in the Moors category.

Sebastian Frölich has been accompanied by a camera throughout his life, and that passion continues today. “Photography runs like a thread through my life,” he explains, “otherwise, I work as a mountain guide and ranger, and I’ve also been a nurse and an animal caretaker.”

Frölich frequently finds himself in the Karwendel region, particularly in the Karwendel valleys near the Isar river in Scharnitz. “Tyrol has grow a place close to my heart. I love the nature here – it’s so diverse, and the people are so warm.” For Frölich, the appeal of nature photography lies in its unpredictability. “It’s always exciting, because something different can come into view at any minute, at any second.”

Strong Commitment to Conservation

Equipped with a substantial amount of gear, Frölich sets out on his expeditions carrying at least 15 to 30 kilograms of camera equipment and accessories. But his work is about more than just capturing a beautiful image. Conservation is a major concern for him. He believes there are so many subtle and delicate details in nature that people demand to be aware of. “You can only protect these subtleties for future generations if you see them and pay attention to them.”

The photographer, now based in Mittenwald, has received numerous awards and accolades. “I’m particularly proud of the Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2025 award from the London Natural History Museum in the Moors category. I didn’t really reckon I had a good chance with the photo from the Platzertal. It’s a rather unusual photo for a competition, one that I submitted on a whim. I was very surprised, but it’s the best award for me.”
