A 24-year-old man was arrested in Dakar after attempting to extort his aunt using secretly recorded videos of her, police confirmed.
According to authorities, the suspect filmed his aunt without her knowledge in private moments, including while she was showering, and later used the footage to demand money and personal favors. The investigation began after the victim reported the incidents to police, who traced a mobile money transfer of 500 CFA francs linked to the extortion attempt.
Detectives said the man had stored the intimate videos on his phone and threatened to release them unless his demands were met. When confronted, he allegedly tried to flee but was apprehended by officers in the Diamaguène Sicap Mbao neighborhood of Dakar.
Police confirmed the suspect admitted to the acts during questioning and was taken into custody. He now faces charges related to invasion of privacy, illegal recording, and extortion under Senegalese law.
The case has drawn attention to growing concerns about digital privacy and the misuse of technology in personal relationships, particularly involving non-consensual recording and online coercion.
