Veteran defender Sergio Ramos is attempting a remarkable career pivot, moving from the pitch too the boardroom as part of a bid to acquire his first professional club, Sevilla. The Spanish international, recently a free agent after a short stint with Monterrey, is reportedly leading a €400 million proposal alongside an American-Mexican investment fund. This move comes as sevilla’s current ownership explores sale options, reflecting broader financial challenges faced by clubs in La Liga and raising questions about the future direction of the historic Andalusian team. Ramos’ deep connection to Sevilla, where he began his career in 2004, adds a compelling personal narrative to the potential takeover.

Sergio Ramos Joins Bid to Acquire Childhood Club Sevilla

Sergio Ramos is actively involved in a potential €400 million bid to purchase Sevilla, the club where he began his professional career. The veteran defender traveled to Seville on Thursday to discuss the details with club stakeholders, according to multiple sources.

Ramos is currently a free agent after departing Monterrey in December following a brief stint with the Liga MX side.

The 38-year-old Ramos first expressed interest in acquiring Sevilla late last year, and his recent trip to Andalusia signals a significant step forward in those ambitions. He was accompanied by his brother, René Ramos, and prominent lawyer Julio Senn during meetings with Sevilla officials.

While Ramos is spearheading the negotiations, sources indicate he would hold a minority stake in the club. The bulk of the investment is expected to come from an American-Mexican investment fund.

While the exact figure offered by the investment fund remains undisclosed, reports in Spain suggest a bid exceeding €400 million. Sevilla has been exploring potential sale options for several months, and this offer is one of several being considered.

However, a source has indicated that there isn’t significant optimism surrounding the success of Ramos’s group’s bid at this time.

Ramos, who will turn 40 in March, came through Sevilla’s youth academy, making his first-team debut in 2004 before moving to Real Madrid in 2005. He returned for a second spell with the club during the 2023/24 season, adding another chapter to his storied career.
