Casemiro and Matheus Cunha put Manchester United ahead, but Benjamin Sesko had the final say with a late, stunning strike.

Manchester United secured a dramatic 3-2 victory over Fulham on Sunday, January 1, thanks to a last-gasp goal from Benjamin Sesko. The win continues a positive run of form for United under their current management.

United started brightly, with Amad Diallo and Harry Maguire both forcing saves from Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno. Fulham’s Joachim Andersen also tested the United net with a dangerous attempt, requiring a sharp reaction from the United keeper. The home side then took the lead when Casemiro rose highest to head in a Bruno Fernandes free kick, though a prior penalty claim for a foul on Matheus Cunha was overturned by VAR, ruling the incident occurred just outside the box.

Chances were limited for a stretch, but United nearly doubled their advantage in the second half when Leno denied Bryan Mbeumo on a clear run at goal. The United keeper then produced another fine save to keep out a Harry Wilson free kick before Cunha extended the lead, latching onto a Casemiro through ball and unleashing a powerful shot into the top corner.

Fulham thought they had pulled one back when Jorge Cuenca found the net, but the goal was disallowed due to Samuel Chukwueze being offside. Sesko then saw an early effort bounce off the post before the United keeper again intervened, this time to prevent an own goal from Maguire.

Raul Jimenez eventually halved the deficit from the penalty spot after a foul by Maguire, and Fulham stunned Old Trafford with a late equalizer from substitute Kevin, who fired a fierce shot from the edge of the area into the top corner. But just when a draw seemed certain, Sesko spun inside the box and unleashed an unstoppable shot past Leno, sending the Theatre of Dreams into raptures. The result keeps United firmly in the hunt for a Champions League spot.
