Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s post regarding paying respects at the home of the deceased Shaji.
Shaji began his tea stall on the road in front of University College during the early days of roadside eateries in the capital city. It quickly became a regular meeting spot for students from University College and Sanskrit College. Even those without money could always find a meal there. The stall moved to its location in front of the old AKG Centre in 2007 following road expansion. It operated from morning until 8 PM. Leaders who regularly visited the party headquarters at AKG Centre were all frequent customers.
The Chief Minister, who doesn’t typically drink tea, wasn’t familiar with Shaji’s brewing skills but would occasionally visit him when serving as the party secretary. While traveling to the AKG Centre after a swearing-in ceremony for the Chief Justice of the High Court, the Chief Minister learned of Shaji’s passing from his staff. He immediately diverted from his motorcade and went directly to the family home. Shaji is survived by his wife, T. Babia, and sons Shinto and Nithin. Funeral arrangements have been completed.
