Shrek 5 Teased at Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade Balloon Test
A sneak peek at a new balloon for the 2025 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade revealed a first look at characters from the upcoming Shrek 5 film.
The balloon, tested yesterday, November 1, 2025, depicts Shrek and Fiona’s sons, Fergus and Farkle, riding in an onion carriage alongside Donkey and Shrek himself. The reveal came in a video posted to TODAY’s YouTube channel, showcasing one of 32 balloons planned for the parade. Alongside the ogre family, new balloons featuring Buzz Lightyear, Mario, and Pac-Man will also debut. This year’s parade will also feature floats from newcomers LEGO, Lindor Truffles, Serta, and Pop Mart.
Shrek 5 will see the return of Mike Myers as Shrek, Eddie Murphy as Donkey, and Cameron Diaz as Fiona, with Zendaya joining the cast as Felicia, the couple’s daughter. The film has faced multiple release date delays, currently scheduled for June 30, 2027, after initial plans for a 2026 debut; speculation suggests the shifts are to avoid competition with other blockbuster releases like the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday.
The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade will air live on NBC on November 27, 2025, from 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM ET. A full preview of the parade’s balloons is now available.
