BC Šiauliai suffered a home defeat on Sunday, losing 81-90 to Klaipėdos Neptūnas. This loss highlights the competitive nature of professional basketball and the challenges teams face in maintaining consistent performance.
Following the game, Šiauliai’s head coach, Darius Songaila, expressed his disappointment with his team’s performance. He acknowledged the opposing team’s strong showing although also reflecting on his team’s shortcomings.
“Respect to Neptūnas. They came prepared and I tried to do the same with our team. We worked hard in training, and I expected the same attitude, but it turned out that we went out there thinking we would just show up and win,” Songaila stated.
Songaila was particularly critical of his team’s lack of effort and focus throughout the game. “It was painful to watch – the mistakes, the lack of fighting for 50/50 balls, the lack of energy everywhere, and being late to everything. The opponents wanted it more and deserved this victory,” he said.
Despite a more competitive showing in the second half, Šiauliai ultimately couldn’t overcome their early struggles. “We were a completely different team, but why couldn’t we play like that in the first half?” Songaila questioned.
The coach took full responsibility for the loss, acknowledging that he had failed to adequately prepare his team. “I didn’t prepare the team. It’s obvious that I didn’t,” he continued.
This marked the first time this season that Klaipėdos Neptūnas defeated Šiauliai, signaling a shift in the competitive dynamic between the two teams.
