Benfica Secures Sidny Cabral in Approximately €5 Million Deal

Benfica has officially signed defender Sidny Cabral from Estrela da Amadora, completing a transfer that was signaled when the player was left off the squad list for a recent match. Estrela da Amadora coach João Nuno previously revealed that Cabral would not travel with the team to Famalicão, indicating the deal was nearing completion.

Estrela da Amadora president Paulo Lopo confirmed the agreement, stating, “Yes, it’s already closed. The contracts haven’t been signed yet, they will be between today and Monday, but it’s done. He’ll undergo his medical on the 29th and will join Benfica’s team at the start of the year.”

The transfer fee is estimated at approximately five million euros, with potential for additional payments based on performance objectives. Estrela da Amadora will retain 10 percent ownership of the player, while Benfica will control the remaining 90 percent.

Lopo emphasized the significance of the move for Estrela da Amadora, stating, “This is the biggest deal in Estrela da Amadora’s history. It surpasses the transfer of Igor Jesus, which was worth four million euros. A player who was signed on a free transfer.”

The acquisition of Cabral bolsters Benfica’s defensive options as they compete in both domestic and European competitions. This deal represents a significant financial windfall for Estrela da Amadora and a promising addition for the Lisbon giants.
