Sigma Olomouc advanced to the Conference League Round of 16 on Friday, February 27, 2026, defeating Lausanne 2-1 in the second leg of their qualifying tie. The Czech side secured a 2-1 aggregate victory after a 1-1 draw in the first leg.

Jáchym Šíp put Olomouc ahead in the 22nd minute, but Omar Janneh leveled for Lausanne in the 40th. Antonín Růsek then scored the decisive goal just before halftime, giving Sigma a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.

This marks Olomouc’s first appearance in a European competition’s Round of 16 in 33 years, last reaching this stage in the 1992/93 UEFA Cup, and even going further to the quarterfinals the previous season.

Olomouc will discover their Round of 16 opponent in Friday’s draw, with AEK Larnaca and Mainz among the potential challengers. Czech side Sparta Prague also qualified directly for the Round of 16 from the league stage and will also be in the draw.

Šíp opened the scoring in the 22nd minute after a cross and attempt from Kliment, with the ball eventually finding him after a defensive lapse. Lausanne responded through Janneh in the 40th minute, leveling the score. However, Růsek restored Olomouc’s advantage just before halftime, securing a crucial lead.

Lausanne had been undefeated in six home European matches this season, but Olomouc disrupted that run with a strong performance on their artificial turf. The home side’s momentum was briefly halted by a foul on Janneh in the 28th minute, but they still managed to equalize before the break.

Růsek’s goal, like Šíp’s, was his first in European competition. The second half saw a more tactical battle, with Olomouc effectively managing the game and limiting clear-cut chances for Lausanne.

Goals: 35. Janneh – 22. Šíp, 44. Růsek. Referee: Minakovič – Borovič, Božovič – Markovič (video, all Serbia). Yellow Cards: Mouanga – Sylla, Šíp, Jásir. Attendance: 9074. First leg: 1-1, Olomouc advances.

In the 78th minute, Slavíček’s shot from a tight angle was blocked by Mouanga. A late surge from Lausanne almost produced a dramatic equalizer in stoppage time, with Sow heading home, but the goal was disallowed for a marginal offside after a VAR review.

Sigma Olomouc improved their away record in European competitions, having previously lost four of their last five matches on the road. Lausanne, meanwhile, extended their winless run to eight competitive games and are still searching for their first victory against a Czech team in UEFA competitions.
