Sofía Franco has withdrawn from Peru’s upcoming congressional race, a move that comes amid ongoing public scrutiny of her personal life and the political ambitions of her husband. The former television host officially submitted her resignation to the Lima Este 1 Special Electoral Board on February 11, 2026, making her departure “irrevocable.”
Franco was running for a seat in the Chamber of Deputies as a candidate for the FE en el Perú political party, which is linked to her husband, former La Molina mayor Álvaro Paz de la Barra. The resignation, formalized in a document dated February 13, 2026, cites “personal reasons” for the decision.
“I, Sofía Franco Ayllón, in my capacity as a candidate for the Chamber of Deputies for the political party FE en el Perú, am writing to inform you that I have submitted my resignation from said candidacy as of February 11, 2026,” reads a statement included in the resignation letter.
Franco added, “Being a decision of utmost importance to my person, I resign directly before this board so that you may process my resignation in accordance with the law.”

While the letter does not elaborate on the specific reasons for her withdrawal, the decision has sparked discussion within political and entertainment circles. This move comes as Paz de la Barra is also pursuing a presidential bid, and the couple has faced increased public attention in recent years.

In January, Franco addressed questions about Silvia Cornejo’s rekindled relationship with her ex-partner, Jean Paul Gabuteau. “Oh, no, I’m cured of Silvia,” she reportedly said, adding, “I prefer that the public draw their own conclusions, think what they want, and that everyone do what they really want.”
