Alexander Sørloth scored twice as Atlético Madrid secured a 3-2 victory over Athletic Bilbao in La Liga on Saturday, April 25, 2026, ending a four-match losing streak in the league.

The Norwegian striker opened the scoring in the 54th minute after a swift counterattack, combining with Álex Baena inside the box before firing a precise shot into the far corner.

Atlético had trailed early after Aitor Paredes put Athletic Bilbao ahead, but Antoine Griezmann leveled the score four minutes after halftime.

Sørloth then completed his brace in stoppage time, latching onto a through ball from Nahuel Molina and calmly finishing past the goalkeeper to seal the win.

Despite showing signs of discomfort after the late goal—grimacing and appearing to struggle—Sørloth remained on the field for the remainder of added time.

He clarified after the match that the pain was due to a cramp, not an injury, saying, “No fue una lesión, fue un solo calambre. No preocupaciones.”

The victory marked Atlético Madrid’s first La Liga win in five games and came ahead of their Champions League semifinal first leg against Arsenal on Wednesday.

Sørloth now has 12 league goals this season and has scored 30 in 65 appearances since joining Atlético Madrid in 2024.
