Applications are now being accepted for the 2026 Master’s programs at Kolkata’s Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI), a premier film school in India. The institute offers specialized training in film and electronic media, attracting aspiring creatives from across the country and beyond. Prospective students have until febuary 10th to submit their applications online, with a preliminary aptitude test scheduled for February 22nd in Thiruvananthapuram.

The institute, which attracts aspiring filmmakers and media professionals, offers a range of specializations within its Master of Fine Arts (MFA) programs in Film and Electronic & Digital Media (EDM).

Programs and Specializations

The Film Wing offers an MFA in Cinema (a one-year bridge program plus a two-year MFA) with specializations in: (i) Animation Cinema, (ii) Cinematography, (iii) Direction and Screenplay Writing, (iv) Film Editing, (v) Producing for Film and Television, and (vi) Sound Recording and Design.

The EDM Wing offers an MFA in EDM (two years).

Specializations within the EDM program include: (i) Cinematography, (ii) Direction and Producing, (iii) Editing, (iv) Management, (v) Sound, and (vi) Writing.

Eligibility

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in any discipline to be considered for admission to any of the programs. Those applying for the Animation Cinema specialization must demonstrate proficiency in drawing.

Selection Process

The selection process consists of two stages: a Preliminary Aptitude Selection Test and a Final Selection Test, each worth a maximum of 100 marks. The first stage of the exam will be divided into two parts: Part A, a General Aptitude Test, and Part B, a Common Subject Area Test. The preliminary test will be held in Thiruvananthapuram on February 22nd.

Shortlisted candidates from the first stage will proceed to the Final Test, which may include a written test, practical exam, and/or an interview. The Final Test will be conducted at the institute in Kolkata.

How to Apply

Applications can be submitted online through applyadmission.net/srfti2026/ until 11:59 PM on February 10th. Candidates awaiting final results from qualifying programs may also apply, subject to fulfilling the necessary requirements.

The Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in Itanagar is also accepting applications until February 10th for three postgraduate programs: Screen Acting, Screen Writing, and Documentary Filmmaking.
