Two 17-year-olds are stranded near the summit of Sveningen mountain in Bjørnafjorden, Norway, prompting a rescue operation.

“A rescue is underway. Representatives from the Red Cross are on their way up,” said Frode Kolltveit, operations leader for the Vest police district.

According to Kolltveit, the area is dark, with dense fog and heavy snow. Authorities advise the teens to remain in place while Red Cross personnel ascend to reach them.

As of 10:30 PM local time, the Red Cross team was navigating the final, steep section of the mountain.

The two young people reported feeling cold.

“Their position is known, and their mobile phones have some charge,” Kolltveit stated.

Police are maintaining contact with the teens via text message.

Sveningen peaks at 842 meters (2,762 feet) in elevation. The teens are located just below the summit.

“The heavy snow is making progress to the top difficult. It will likely accept another excellent while, up to two hours, before they reach the summit. The two individuals have been informed,” Kolltveit said around 11 PM.

According to police, the two teenagers have taken shelter in a shed in the area.

“They are not injured. Given the conditions and the approaching darkness, they did not feel safe descending without assistance. They are similarly with a dog,” authorities said.

The teens began their hike from Lønningdal. Police were alerted to the situation on Saturday at 6:28 PM.

Frode Kolltveit expressed optimism about the outcome of the rescue operation.

“We have some contact with them, and they know help is on the way. We hope for the best,” he said.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
