Turkey’s Minister of National Education, Yusuf Tekin, issued a message celebrating Teachers’ Day, recognizing the vital role educators play in shaping the nation’s future. The annual observance highlights the contributions of teachers and the importance of education in Turkish society.
“Dear Colleagues, Beloved Teachers,” Tekin began in his statement. “There are some voices in life that we never forget – a supportive word from our teacher, a reassuring conversation, a comforting address. I respectfully greet all teachers who carry this voice to their students, leaving deep impressions on their minds and hearts, and guiding them. I wholeheartedly celebrate our Teachers’ Day.”
Tekin emphasized the crucial role teachers play in realizing the country’s ambitions as it enters its second century as a republic. “In the second century of our Republic, we are turning our great dreams for our country into reality with your effort, patience, and determination,” he said. “Your professional honor is the strongest source of hope for the future of this nation. Every step you take to touch a student’s world leaves a quiet but profound mark on our country’s future. We recognize how valuable this effort, this patience, and this dedication are.”
The minister highlighted the transformative power of teachers, noting how they foster self-confidence in students, help them find their paths, and unlock their potential. “A child gaining self-confidence, a young person finding their way, a student discovering their inner potential… all of this begins anew each morning when you open the classroom door with a smiling face,” Tekin stated. “Your words, your patience, your encouragement are the first steps of a lifelong transformation.”
Tekin described teachers as “invisible architects” constantly rebuilding the country’s future, stressing that the democratization of education and the strengthening of equal opportunities are fundamental to this vision. “Ensuring that every student, regardless of their language, belief, origin, or living conditions, has equal access to quality education; creating a school climate based on human rights and embracing differences as a richness, is our priority,” he said. “We recognize the effort, patience, and sense of justice that you, as the true founders of this climate, bring to bear.”
Acknowledging the varying conditions in which teachers work – from rural schools to urban centers – Tekin affirmed that their passion, responsibility, and care remain constant. He recognized the sacrifices teachers make, often putting their students’ dreams before their own fatigue. “There is a silent heroism in every home in this country, a foundation of trust in the future, and rest assured: building an education system where you are not alone is our primary duty,” he said. “We are working with enthusiasm to raise the status you deserve, to strengthen your working conditions, and to equip your classrooms with the possibilities of the age. As you are safe, peaceful, and strong, the children of this country will also confidently walk into the future.”
Looking ahead, Tekin expressed his honor in working alongside educators to write new success stories in the country’s second century. He concluded his message with a tribute to Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic, and to all teachers who have passed away or are no longer in service. “I respectfully remember our Chief Teacher Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and all our teachers who have been martyred or left us while on duty,” he said. “I wish health and peace to our retired teachers; and success, well-being, and ease to those of you who continue your duties with the same love and enthusiasm as on the first day. I greet you all with love and respect.”
