Following successful titles like Star Wars outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, developer Massive Entertainment is doubling down on its The Division franchise. The looter-shooter series, which debuted in 2016, is a key property for Ubisoft, though recent installments haven’t matched the commercial performance of the originals. The studio is now actively in production on The division 3, with creative leadership expressing confidence the next entry will recapture the impact of the original game.
Massive Entertainment, the studio behind titles like Star Wars Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, is refocusing its efforts on its established The Division franchise. While recent releases have garnered positive reception, they haven’t reached the critical or commercial heights of earlier successes, including the original The Division and its follow-up, The Division 2. The latter faced challenges with post-launch support, a decision Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment later reversed by resuming development.
Now, the company is setting its sights on The Division 3, currently in production. During a recent showcase, Creative Director Julian Gerighty offered a glimpse into the studio’s ambitions for the next installment in the tactical shooter series. The Division franchise has become a significant player in the looter-shooter genre, known for its blend of RPG elements and online cooperative gameplay.
Gerighty expressed high hopes for The Division 3, stating, “The Division 3 is in production, not right? This is no secret; it’s been announced. It’s looking to be a monster. Within these walls at Massive, we are working extremely hard on something that I believe will have as big of an impact as Division 1 did.”
