Public Meeting to Address Rising Tiger Mosquito Concerns in Yonne
Health officials in the Yonne department of France are holding a public meeting on September 10, 2025, to address growing concerns about the tiger mosquito, Aedes albopictus. The mosquito, known for its aggressive bite and potential to transmit diseases, has been rapidly expanding its range across Europe, and understanding local control measures is crucial for public health.
The meeting will take place at 6:30 PM at the “La Boussole” welcome and animation space, located at 4 bis place du Cadran in Auxerre. It is specifically targeted towards residents of the Piedalloues neighborhood, which has reported increasing mosquito nuisance issues since 2024.
Organizers of the event include the Agglomeration de l’Auxerrois, the Regional Health Agency (ARS) of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, and Promotion Santé BFC. The goal is to empower residents to actively participate in mosquito control efforts and to answer questions about current municipal strategies.
Several experts will be present to share information and address community concerns. Speakers include Madeline Grelardon, an animator for the local health contract (CLS) in Auxerrois, Aillantais, and Chablisien; Arnaud Brun, a health and environmental technician from the Agglomeration de l’Auxerrois; Adeline Escrihuela, Deputy Territorial Director of the ARS Yonne and head of the “Territorial Development in Health” mission; Vincent Beauvalot, an epidemiological study engineer from the ARS; and Sarah Pebayle, a project manager in health engineering and promotion at Promotion Santé BFC.
This initiative comes as the tiger mosquito continues to spread throughout France. As of January 1, 2024, the mosquito has been identified in 78 departments across metropolitan France, including the Yonne, according to the Ministry of Health. The expansion highlights the require for ongoing vigilance and coordinated public health responses.
In Fleury-la-Vallée, a conference is scheduled for February 27 to educate the public on protecting themselves from the tiger mosquito. Michèle Battault, president of Fleury animations, is organizing the event, which will be held at the Fleury-la-Vallée polyvalent hall.
