Phnom Penh – Cambodia’s acting head of state, Senate President Hun Sen, met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in the capital on Wednesday, April 23, 2026, reaffirming the enduring strength of bilateral ties between the two nations.
During the meeting, Hun Sen welcomed Wang Yi’s return visit, describing him as a “longtime friend” of Cambodia and expressing appreciation for China’s continued support in areas such as infrastructure development and economic growth.
He emphasized that regardless of shifts in the global landscape, the friendship between Cambodia and China remains steadfast, calling it a cornerstone of national stability and progress.
Wang Yi conveyed warm greetings from Chinese President Xi Jinping to Hun Sen, noting the Chinese leader’s attention to recent humanitarian gestures involving Cambodia’s royal family.
He highlighted Hun Sen’s pivotal role in shaping China-Cambodia relations, describing the enduring “ironclad friendship” as a product of decades of mutual trust and cooperation, now being carried forward under Prime Minister Hun Manet’s leadership.
The discussion also covered the outcomes of the inaugural Cambodia-China Foreign and Defense Ministers’ “2+2” strategic dialogue, which Wang Yi and Defense Minister Dong Jun attended during the visit. Both sides welcomed the talks as a significant step in deepening practical cooperation and advancing shared interests.
Hun Sen praised the results of the dialogue, urging continued Chinese support for Cambodia’s efforts to strengthen economic resilience and sustain long-term development.
