ÖBB cleaning crews have completed their annual spring cleanup across multiple Austrian states, restoring stations and facilities to a high standard of cleanliness after the winter months.

In Tirol, approximately 50 employees worked from Landeck to Lienz to refresh 97 railway stations and stops, including Innsbruck Hauptbahnhof. The effort covered 332,097 square meters of floor space—equivalent to 46 football fields—and included the cleaning of 29,500 square meters of glass surfaces, 2,875 meters of handrails, and 1,658 meters of seating benches. 41 elevators and eight escalators were serviced, and 474 waste containers were maintained.

The ÖBB emphasized the use of environmentally friendly cleaning agents and noted that lighter waste bags are helping reduce plastic consumption during the operation.

Similar efforts took place in Vorarlberg, where 22 cleaning staff focused on station areas totaling the size of 20 football fields. In Salzburg, crews treated 38 football fields’ worth of flooring as part of the regional spring cleanup.

Nationwide, 549 ÖBB cleaning personnel participated in the initiative, which the company described as essential not only for hygiene but also for improving passenger comfort and safety during waiting times.

The campaign underscores the ÖBB’s ongoing commitment to maintaining clean, welcoming public transport environments across Austria.
