The Awa Odori, a 400-year-old traditional performing art, is a defining cultural element of Tokushima Prefecture. The new uniform boldly incorporates imagery of dancers in motion, printed along the sides of the jersey. The design was brought to life in collaboration with Mizuno, the club’s uniform supplier, resulting in a truly one-of-a-kind aesthetic.

“We envisioned players wearing this uniform in dynamic action,” the club explained in a statement. “The design aims to capture the lively rhythm of the ‘zomeki’ (traditional Awa Odori music), the dignified figures of the dancers, and the sounds of the festival instruments – all elements that embody the spirit of Tokushima. We hope to draw everyone into the excitement of the Awa Odori and fight together for a special season.”

Prior to the official launch, the club conducted a demand forecasting survey to gauge interest in the new uniform. A pre-sale event, exclusive to survey respondents, began at noon on January 9 through the Tokushima Vortis official online store. A pre-sale for CLUB VORTIS members will begin at noon on January 14, with general sales opening at 6:00 PM on January 16.

■“A Rare Uniform That Won’t Be Repeated”

The 2025 season saw Tokushima finish fourth in the J2 League, earning them a spot in the J1 promotion playoffs. Despite a valiant effort, they were narrowly defeated 1-0 by Jef United Chiba in the final match. With the arrival of new manager Gert Engels, the club is poised to embark on a new chapter in the Centennial League, sporting the distinctive “Awa Odori SPECIAL UNIFORM.” This unique branding could help boost team morale and fan engagement as they pursue promotion.
