Tomás Pérez: Porto Midfielder Joins Atlético Mineiro on Loan

Argentine midfielder Tomás Pérez is set to join Brazilian club Atlético Mineiro on loan from FC Porto until December 2026, with a non-mandatory purchase option. Sources indicate the deal is progressing well and could result in a transfer fee of around six million euros for 80% of the player’s rights should Atlético Mineiro decide to make the move permanent.

Pérez, 20, has not featured for FC Porto’s first team this season and will now have the opportunity to gain more consistent playing time. He arrived at the Portuguese club in January of last year from Newell’s Old Boys for a fee of three million euros, but struggled to break into the starting lineup despite representing Argentina at youth international levels.

The young player recently participated in the Under-20 World Cup, where he was a finalist with Argentina, falling to Morocco in the championship match. While initially a signing of compatriot Martin Anselmi, Pérez did not feature prominently in the plans of current FC Porto manager Francesco Farioli.

According to reports, FC Porto too retain the option to recall Pérez in June should they choose to do so. This loan move offers a fresh start for the promising midfielder as he looks to develop his game in the competitive Brazilian league.
