The obvious questions

Do I need an Xbox Game Pass to play these free games?

No. Coverage from **IMDb, ScreenRant, and GameSpot** confirms that **Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, Diablo IV, and Ikonei Island** are free to play without a subscription, though some promotions may have time limits.

Why is *Black Ops 6* becoming standalone?

Sources like **Push Square, Activision-affiliated outlets, and eTeknix** note the update will **free up storage space** on consoles and may address long-standing player requests to separate it from the main *Call of Duty* hub.

Are these free games available on platforms other than Xbox?

Coverage does not specify availability on PlayStation, PC, or other platforms. The promotions are explicitly tied to **Xbox Free Play Days** as stated by **XBOX Wire and Pure Xbox**.

The story so far

Xbox is offering a batch of free-to-play games through its **Free Play Days** initiative, including **Call of Duty: Black Ops 7**, **Diablo IV**, and **Ikonei Island: An Earthlock Adventure**. Coverage highlights that these titles are accessible without an Xbox Game Pass subscription, with some promotions expiring by July 5.

Separately, **Call of Duty: Black Ops 6** is transitioning to a standalone game on July 7, detaching from the main *Call of Duty* hub to free up storage space on consoles. The trend underscores a strategic push by Xbox to attract casual players and by Activision to streamline its game ecosystem.

Watch for potential backlash or praise over the standalone shift for *Black Ops 6*, as well as whether this free-play model sparks similar promotions from competitors. Coverage does not yet specify long-term effects on game sales or player engagement beyond the weekend.
