The story so far

The Milwaukee Brewers have designated Lance McCullers Jr. for assignment just 11 days after acquiring the former All-Star in a trade with the Houston Astros. This decision follows two brief outings for the team, leaving the pitcher's future status uncertain within the organization. Concurrently, the Chicago Cubs have designated veteran pitcher Jameson Taillon for assignment. This roster move follows a challenging stretch for the right-hander, who struggled with allowing home runs, including a recent performance in an 8-7 loss. The organization has replaced him on the roster by adding Andrew Wantz.

In Detroit, the Tigers have reinstated Javier Báez from the injured list. To clear a spot on the active roster, the club designated catcher Jake Rogers for assignment. Coverage across outlets including MLB.com and the Detroit Free Press notes the shift in the team's depth chart as they prepare for a series against the Baltimore Orioles. These rapid transactions arrive as the league approaches the trade deadline. The personnel shifts underscore the immediate pressure teams face regarding rotation spots and player performance.

While the Brewers, Cubs, and Tigers have made these specific cuts, the overarching trend reflects a high degree of volatility in active player management across the league. For McCullers, Taillon, and Rogers, the designation for assignment process begins a waiting period where they could be traded, claimed by another team, or placed on waivers. Future rosters for these organizations will depend on subsequent transaction activity as front offices navigate the final window for deadline-related roster adjustments.
