‘X-Men’ Movie: Asa Germann Nabs Role of Angel (Exclusive)

Marvel Studios has filled another major vacancy in its expanding mutant roster. Asa Germann, recognized for his performance as Sam Riordan in the Amazon Prime Video series Gen V and his supporting turn in Scream 7, is stepping into the Marvel Cinematic Universe to portray Warren Worthington III, better known as the high-flying hero Angel. The casting follows a quiet period after Disney's initial character reveals at D23 last month, steadily assembling the ensemble ahead of the film's scheduled theatrical release on May 5, 2028.

According to industry reporting, Germann initially pursued a different path during auditions, aiming for the role of team leader Scott Summers, or Cyclops. While that part ultimately went to Heartstopper actor Kit Connor, Marvel executives retained strong interest in Germann's screen presence, pivoting him toward the winged original team member instead. Director Jake Schreier's project is gradually bringing together the foundational roster of Professor X's team. Germann joins a growing cast that features Connor as Cyclops, Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Inde Navarette as Rogue, and newcomer Maya Boyd as Storm, alongside Christopher Abbott as Charles Xavier and Samara Weaving as Emma Frost. On the villainous side, Adam Driver is slated to play Mister Sinister.

This marks the third time the winged mutant has appeared in a live-action feature film, following Ben Foster's portrayal in 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand and Ben Hardy's turn as the corrupted Archangel in 2016's X-Men: Apocalypse. For Germann, transitioning from a satirical superhero universe like The Boys to the foundational Marvel cinematic continuity offers a high-profile platform. His previous experience portraying a character dealing with intense physical and psychological stress provides a fitting background for the complex internal conflicts often associated with Worthington's feathered mutation.

With three members of the original comic book lineup now cast, attention turns to whether Marvel will round out the classic squad by announcing actors for Iceman and Beast before production ramps up. As creative teams refine the script and visual approach for the 2028 release, the studio continues to balance emerging talent with established actors to shape a fresh cinematic identity for the mutant team.
