Legal documents were filed Monday, according to Reuters.

Both Trump and the White House signaled in November that a lawsuit was forthcoming if the BBC did not meet three demands: withdrawal of the documentary, an apology, and financial compensation.

On Sunday, November 9, both BBC Director-General Tim Davie and Chief Correspondent Deborah Turness announced their resignations following the network’s misleading edit of a speech Trump gave prior to the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.

BBC Chief Executive Samir Shah sent a letter to Trump on November 13, apologizing for the incident.

The BBC has called the edit an editorial misjudgment, but has rejected calls for financial reparations, arguing there is no basis for such a claim.

Following the BBC revelations, both NRK and Swedish broadcaster SVT have edited segments featuring Trump’s speech.
