Turkey Auto Sales Hit Record High in 2025: 1.37 Million Units Sold

Turkey’s automotive sector closed out 2025 with record-breaking sales, reaching 1,368,400 units – a 10.49% increase from the prior year. The surge, reported by the Automotive Distributors and Mobility Association (ODMD), signals sustained demand despite ongoing economic factors and positions Turkey as a key market in the region. The data reveals shifting consumer preferences and an evolving fuel landscape within the country’s vehicle sales.

Turkey’s automotive market reached a record high in 2025, with sales of new cars and light commercial vehicles climbing to 1,368,400 units – a 10.49% increase compared to the previous year. The strong performance underscores the growing demand for vehicles in the region and signals a positive trend for the country’s manufacturing sector.

Data released by the Automotive Distributors and Mobility Association (ODMD) showed that 1,084,496 passenger cars were sold between January and December, representing a 10.62% increase year-over-year. Light commercial vehicle sales also saw growth, rising 9.97% to 283,904 units.

December alone saw a significant surge in sales, with a 12.55% increase in overall vehicle sales compared to December 2024, totaling 191,620 units. Passenger car sales rose 8.54% in December, while light commercial vehicle sales jumped 27.83%.

Looking at the broader trend, the automotive market experienced a 57.9% increase compared to the 10-year December average.

SUV Dominance in Consumer Preference

SUVs were the preferred vehicle type among consumers, accounting for 61.9% of all sales – a total of 671,819 units. This demonstrates a clear shift in consumer preference towards larger, more versatile vehicles.

Vehicles in the A, B, and C segments, which benefit from lower tax rates, comprised 82.7% of the market. Specifically, C-segment cars accounted for 599,790 sales, representing a 55.3% market share, while B-segment cars reached 292,700 units, or 27% of the total.

Following SUVs, sedans held the second-largest market share at 22.8% (247,500 sales), and hatchbacks accounted for 14.4% (156,078 sales).

Breaking down sales by fuel type, the data revealed the following distribution:

  • Gasoline: 509,217 units (47% market share)
  • Hybrid: 295,378 units (27.2% market share)
  • Electric: 191,960 units (17.7% market share)
  • Diesel: 80,346 units (7.4% market share)
  • LPG: 7,595 units (0.7% market share)
