The United Arab Emirates and the European Union convened their 13th human rights dialogue in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday, December 24, according to reports from the Emirates News Agency (WAM). The discussions represent a continuing effort to address shared concerns regarding human rights issues.
During the meeting, officials focused on a range of critical topics, including labor rights, women’s rights, freedom of expression, the rule of law, combating human trafficking, and the intersection of digital technology and human rights. Participants also discussed coordinating efforts within United Nations human rights bodies, committees, and mechanisms, WAM reported.
Saeed Al-Habsi, Director of Human Rights at the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, led the Emirati delegation. The EU delegation was headed by Anna-Maria Panayotakopoulou, Head of the Arabian Peninsula and Iraq Division at the European External Action Service.
The dialogue underscores the ongoing commitment of both the UAE and the EU to address human rights challenges through international cooperation.
