Ubuntu 24.04.4 LTS Now Available with Kernel 6.17 and Mesa 25.2
Ubuntu’s latest long-term support release, version 24.04.4, is now available for desktop, server and cloud deployments, as well as other supported flavors. The update, announced on Thursday, February 12, 2026, brings the Linux kernel 6.17 and Mesa 25.2 to the stable branch, enhancing hardware support and graphics performance.
This fourth point release in the Ubuntu 24.04 LTS series focuses on cumulative fixes and improvements since the original April 2024 launch. While it doesn’t introduce latest user-facing features, the update provides significant under-the-hood enhancements. The inclusion of Kernel 6.17 brings support for new hardware, including RX 9070 series fan speed reporting, temperature monitoring for AMD Zen 5 desktop processors, and Intel APX support.
Users of laptops will also benefit from the update, with improved web camera support for Lunar Lake and Panther Lake models, as well as support for Apple Touch Bar displays, Apple Magic Mouse 2 USB-C, and devices from Samsung, ASUS, and HP. The update also adds external DisplayPort support for ThinkPad and XPS laptops, and compatibility with the Lenovo Legion Go S gaming handheld.
Graphics performance receives a boost thanks to Mesa 25.2, the open-source graphics library. This includes faster ray-tracing performance for AMD RDNA3 and RDNA4 GPUs, Vulkan Video support for RDNA 4 GPUs, and stable support for Intel Xe3 Panther Lake graphics. Initial support for NVIDIA Blackwell has also been included. The update also incorporates ARL-H gpu support for those utilizing the 6.8 Kernel.
Beyond hardware and graphics, Ubuntu 24.04.4 LTS includes updates to the libinput library, improving touchpad support on various Dell laptops, and fixes for volume and audio issues on Dell Pro Rugged tablets, Dell Oasis laptops, and Renegade platforms. It also addresses speaker mute and mic mute LED functionality on HP ZBook and HP 200 G2a platforms.
Additional improvements include WiFi 6GHz support for the Philippines on Intel iwlwifi chips, a fix for missing Bluetooth firmware for Intel AX203 cards, and NVIDIA Grace platform support.
Current Ubuntu 24.04 LTS users can upgrade to the latest version by running sudo apt update & sudo apt upgrade. ISO images for a fresh installation are also available for download. All official Ubuntu flavors – Kubuntu, Ubuntu Budgie, Ubuntu MATE, Lubuntu, Ubuntu Kylin, Ubuntu Studio, Xubuntu, Edubuntu, and Ubuntu Cinnamon – have also been updated to version 24.04.4.
Ubuntu 24.04 LTS “Noble Numbat” will receive five years of standard security and maintenance updates, through April 2029. Subscribers to the Ubuntu Pro add-on will receive extended coverage through April 2034, with critical patches available until April 2036. This commitment to long-term support underscores Ubuntu’s dedication to providing a stable and secure platform for its users.
