The United Kingdom is facing challenges in securing its representative for the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest.
The group “Remember Monday” was initially selected to represent the UK at the competition, as reported by 1188.lv. The trio consists of Lauren Byrne, Holly-Anne Hull, and Charlotte Steele.
“Remember Monday” gained recognition through the TV show “The Voice UK” and their presence on social media, particularly TikTok, where they perform covers of other artists’ songs. They have released two mini albums, “Hysterical Women” and “Crazy Anyway.”
Their Eurovision entry, “What The Hell Just Happened?” is described as a “saldi melodiskā, bet tekstuāli asprātīgā” (sweetly melodic, but textually witty) song, and an autobiographical account of the emotional support between friends after a night out.
BBC author Mark Savage characterized the song as, “imagine ‘ABBA’ and Sam Ryder had teamed up to star in the musical ‘Six’, had a drink together and then tried to recreate Queen’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ from memory.”
The lyrics to “What The Hell Just Happened?” include lines like, “Someone lost a shoe, I’m still in last night’s makeup, I’m waking up like, what’s this new tattoo?” and “Room is spinning, Ears are ringing, Clutch my pearls like… What the hell just happened?”
The news comes as the UK prepares to host the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest, after Ukraine was deemed unable to host due to the ongoing war following the Russian invasion, according to tv3.lv. The competition’s shift to the UK marks a significant moment for the country’s music scene and its role in the international event.
On May 6, 2025, LSM.lv reported that the song is about the mutual support of friends after a night of fun.
