The move, announced by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy via X, signals a shift in ukraine’s sanctions strategy to target not only Russian entities but also international suppliers providing critical components [[2]]. This escalation comes as Ukraine continues to plead with allies for increased aid and tighter enforcement of existing sanctions against Moscow and its partners, including iran [[3]].

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced Sunday he will impose sanctions on a number of foreign companies that manufacture components used in Iranian-made drones and missiles employed by Russia in its attacks on Ukraine.

Zelenskyy stated on X, formerly known as Twitter: “The production of these weapons would be impossible without the necessary foreign components that the Russians continue to obtain by circumventing sanctions.”

He added: “We will impose new sanctions, specifically on companies supplying components and manufacturers of missiles and drones… I have signed the relevant decisions.”

Kyiv is escalating its efforts to disrupt Russia’s war machine by targeting the international supply chains that enable the production of weapons used against Ukraine. President Zelenskyy announced Sunday, November 26, that Ukraine will sanction foreign companies aiding Russia’s military capabilities.

The Ukrainian leader revealed the planned sanctions in a post on X, stating that Russia relies on foreign-made components to manufacture the drones and missiles used in its ongoing attacks. “The production of these weapons would be impossible without the necessary foreign components that the Russians continue to obtain by circumventing sanctions,” Zelenskyy wrote.

According to the President, the new sanctions will specifically target companies involved in the supply of these crucial components, as well as the manufacturers of the missiles and drones themselves. “We will impose new sanctions, specifically on companies supplying components and manufacturers of missiles and drones… I have signed the relevant decisions,” he stated.

The announcement signals a broadening of Ukraine’s sanctions strategy, moving beyond targeting Russian individuals and entities to focus on those internationally who are facilitating Moscow’s military efforts. The development underscores Ukraine’s determination to choke off Russia’s access to vital technologies despite ongoing attempts to evade existing restrictions.
