as Ukrainian forces continue to defend against Russia’s invasion, international diplomatic efforts remain critical. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is set to meet with former U.S. President Donald Trump in Florida on Sunday, seeking further assurances of support amidst ongoing conflict. The meeting follows a reaffirmation of commitment from European allies-including Germany, France and Canada-who pledged continued assistance to Kyiv and a coordinated approach with the United States in pursuit of a lasting peace.

European allies of Ukraine have reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Kyiv as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy prepares to meet with former U.S. President Donald Trump. The meeting comes at a critical juncture in the conflict, as Ukraine continues to seek international assistance to counter Russia’s ongoing invasion.

According to a statement released by the German government, eleven European and Canadian leaders, along with representatives from NATO and the European Union, pledged their “full support” for Ukraine and emphasized their commitment to working closely with the United States to achieve a “sustainable and just peace.”

Macron Calls for Full European Involvement in Peace Talks

French President Emmanuel Macron condemned recent Russian attacks on Kyiv during a phone conversation with Zelenskyy, highlighting what he described as a stark contrast between Ukraine’s willingness to pursue a lasting peace and Russia’s continued aggression.

Macron stressed the importance of full European involvement in any discussions related to the conflict. “We welcome all efforts that lead to our common goal – a just and lasting peace that preserves the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine,” European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen wrote on X, adding that she had also participated in the conversation.

Zelenskyy informed German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and other European leaders about the status of negotiations Saturday evening, according to a government spokesperson. He is currently en route to the United States and is keeping the so-called Berlin Group updated on discussions. Earlier, Merz, at Zelenskyy’s request, convened a video conference mirroring a recent meeting held in Berlin.

Zelenskyy Seeks Security Guarantees from Trump

The meeting between Trump and Zelenskyy is scheduled for Sunday in Florida. Zelenskyy announced on Telegram that a key topic of discussion will be security guarantees for Ukraine, and also referenced what he called “red lines” for his country. This development underscores the importance of securing long-term commitments from key international partners.

The two leaders are also expected to discuss a revised version of a 20-point U.S. plan aimed at ending the war. Notably, the plan does not include two key Russian demands: the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the Donbass region and a legally binding commitment from Ukraine to forgo NATO membership.

A previous version of the plan, containing 28 points, had drawn criticism for being perceived as pro-Russian. The text was subsequently revised in response to pressure from Ukraine and its European allies.
