Controversy at the Games! Ukrainian Racer Suspended! Here Are His Demands
The IOC has barred Vladyslav Heraskevych from participating in the Olympic Games after he refused to comply with regulations! The skeleton racer intended to wear the aforementioned helmet during his competition, despite the ban.
“Vladyslav Heraskevych did not consider any form of compromise. The IOC was highly keen for him to take part in the competition. That is why they met with him to discover a respectful way to commemorate his fellow athletes who died as a result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The essence of the matter is not the message, but where he wanted to convey it” — reads the justification provided.
“The IOC has turned the situation with the ‘Helmet of Remembrance’ into a theater of the absurd. In its statement yesterday, IOC spokesperson Mark Adams specifically emphasized the equality of athletes and used this argument to justify the ban on using the ‘Helmet of Remembrance.’ However, on the same day, an American figure skater, during his performance at the Olympic Games in Milan, paid a beautiful tribute to his parents who died in a plane crash — and, of course, did not face any sanctions for it” — Heraskevych wrote on social media.
“This situation could be a perfect illustration of the concept of ‘double standards.’ Previously, we asked, and now we demand the lifting of the ban on using the ‘Helmet of Remembrance’ during competitions at the Olympic Games. It is obvious that it does not violate any IOC rules” — he added.
“I never wanted a scandal with the IOC and it wasn’t me who provoked it. The IOC provoked it with its interpretation of the rules, which many consider discriminatory” — he stated after the decision, and demanded the lifting of the helmet ban, an apology, and the provision of power generators for Ukrainian sports facilities, which are shelled daily.
“I very much count on a response before the start of the skeleton competitions” — he concluded.
