Several U.S. Military aircraft crashed in Kuwait on Monday, March 2, according to the country’s Ministry of Defense. The incidents occurred on the third day of conflict between American forces and Iran, escalating tensions in the region.

Kuwait’s military initially reported that “several” American fighter jets had fallen within the country, with the circumstances of the crashes under investigation. The U.S. Central Command later stated that three F-15 fighter jets, operating in support of Operation Epic Fury – the American offensive against Iran – went down over Kuwaiti territory due to what appeared to be friendly fire.

“We can confirm all crew members survived,” a department spokesperson said in a statement.

According to the command, all six crew members were able to safely eject and were recovered.

“Authorities immediately initiated search and rescue operations, evacuated the crew, and transported them to a hospital for medical evaluation and treatment. Their condition is stable,” the statement read.

Previously verified images from the BBC and CNN appear to show the moment one jet was downed near Kuwait City.

A video geolocated by CNN shows a jet falling from the sky in a spin, suggesting the aircraft went down less than 10 kilometers from the Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait.

The twin-engine jet is consistent with an F-15E or F/A-18, according to CNN analysis. Kuwait also operates F/A-18 jets.
