Diplomatic efforts to end the Ukraine conflict have intensified, with recent talks occurring in Florida between U.S. and Ukrainian officials. While Ukraine has expressed openness to negotiations, Russia’s demands for territorial concessions remain unchanged, complicating prospects for peace. The meetings come amid broader international discussions on potential resolutions to the ongoing war.
Negotiations aimed at finding a potential end to the conflict in Ukraine are continuing in Florida, with representatives from the United States and Ukraine holding further discussions on a proposed peace plan.
U.S. Envoys Met with Putin in Moscow
According to reports, former Defense Minister Rustem Umjerov and Chief of the General Staff Andriy Hnatow met Tuesday, May 14, in Miami with U.S. negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
Witkoff, a special envoy for former U.S. President Donald Trump, and Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law, visited Moscow earlier this week, on Tuesday, May 13, meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. During that meeting, they presented U.S. proposals for a potential resolution to the war. They briefed the Ukrainian delegation on the outcome of the Moscow talks on Thursday, May 16, in Florida.
Ukraine, heavily reliant on support from the United States and European nations, has indicated its willingness to engage in negotiations. Moscow has also stated it is open to talks, though its core demands – including territorial concessions from Ukraine – remain unchanged, effectively seeking a surrender from Kyiv.
The renewed meeting in Miami was reported by sources close to the Ukrainian delegation, and confirmed by officials speaking to the U.S. news outlet Axios. The development underscores the ongoing diplomatic efforts to find a path toward de-escalation in the region.
