The U.S. Women’s National Hockey Team has declined an invitation from President Donald Trump to visit the White House.
The Olympic champions from the 2026 Winter Olympics thanked President Trump but informed him that the players’ busy schedules will prevent them from traveling to Washington.
“We are sincerely grateful for the invitation extended to our Women’s National Team and deeply appreciate the recognition of their extraordinary achievement,” a USA Hockey spokesperson said in a statement. “Due to the timing and pre-planned academic and professional commitments following the Games, the athletes are unable to participate in the visit. The invitation is, however, a great honor.”

The invitation followed a similar result with the U.S. Men’s team, who also received an invitation from President Trump.
President Trump invited both successful teams to attend his State of the Union address on Tuesday in the Capitol as honored guests, and suggested a celebration at the White House would follow.
The U.S. Men’s hockey team secured their third Olympic gold medal in history with a thrilling 2-1 overtime victory against Canada in the final held in Milan. The win marked a significant moment for American hockey, adding to a record-breaking medal haul of 12 gold, 12 silver, and nine bronze for Team USA at the Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo Winter Olympics.
The U.S. Victory came after a hard-fought match, mirroring a previous contest between the two rivals. Canada had defeated the U.S. In overtime in the 2025 Tournament of Four Nations final, prompting then-Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to state: “They can’t take our country, and they can’t take our game.” The statement was a response to repeated suggestions from the Trump administration regarding the potential of adding Canada as the 51st state.
President Trump celebrated the success of American athletes, praising their performance in hockey and across all events. “We’re winning too much, it’s just not fair!” Trump exclaimed, highlighting the record medal count achieved by Team USA at the Games.
Meanwhile, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney stated he was “incredibly proud” of his country’s athletes.
