Team USA overcame an early deficit to defeat Denmark 6-3 in a preliminary round matchup on Saturday, February 14, 2026.
Denmark struck first just two minutes into the game, as Nick Olesen’s shot deflected into the American net. However, the lead was short-lived, with Matt Boldy quickly responding to tie the score at 1-1. The first period saw another surprising turn when Nicholas Jensen scored from center ice, catching American goaltender Jeremy Swayman off guard and giving Denmark a 2-1 advantage.
The second period belonged to the Americans. Brady Tkachuk and Jack Eichel both found the back of the net, shifting the momentum and putting the U.S. Ahead 3-2. Noah Hanifin extended the lead with a goal of his own, but Denmark refused to go quietly, with Philip Bruggisser scoring with just 2.6 seconds remaining in the period to develop it 4-3.
In the third period, Jake Guentzel capitalized on Danish fatigue, increasing the lead to 5-3. Jack Hughes then sealed the victory with a late goal, beating Mads Søgaard to complete the scoring at 6-3 with less than six minutes left in regulation.
Team USA dominated the shot count, outshooting Denmark 47-21.
